Ballechin 10 years Heavily Peated
Ballechin is a heavily peated whiskey produced at the Edradour distillery since 2003. For this purpose, barley is used that has a peat content of at least 50ppm. Matured primarily in ex-bourbon casks, the single malt is generously finished with ex-Oloroso sherry casks to add depth and complexity. It is bottled at 46% and without chill filtration or coloring to preserve true cask character.
The name Ballechin comes from a distillery of the same name which closed its doors in 1927 on a farm in Perthshire. A note of a peated whiskey tasted by Alfred Barnard in the 1880s kept the memory of this distillery alive.
