Collection: Glenturret

Glenturret Distillery is situated on the banks of the Turret River, two miles (three kilometers) north-west of Crieff in Perthshire, Scotland. The distillery is tucked away in a valley and its remoteness may have played a part in its early history when there were several illegal bothy stills here.

It was believed that the high hills on either side of the distillery served as lookouts for smugglers. The valley is "a wondrous haven for artists, who come in great numbers to transfer some of its transcendent charms to canvas," according to Alfred Barnard, who visited the distillery at the time. The parish of Monzievaird and Strowan is the area where the distillery is located.
