Collection: Glendronach

The Glendronach Scottish whisky distillery is located in the Highland whisky region near Forgue, adjacent to Huntly, Aberdeenshire. The BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd. was the owner. The distillery was founded in 1826 by James Allard's (also known as Allardice), who was the second distillery to apply for a license to legally produce whisky under the Excise Act of 1823, which had been passed three years earlier and permitted the distillation of whisky in Scotland. Other stories attribute the founding of the distillery to a group of farmers and businessmen, which may have included the Allards.

What makes Glendronach so special is its strong adherence to traditional production methods. Modern technology is nowhere to be found here – the distillery relies on craftsmanship and centuries-old processes. But what exactly goes into the production of this Scottish gem?

The selection of raw materials

For Glendronach, only the finest Scottish barley and pure water from the surrounding springs are used, guaranteeing the highest quality in every drop.

Slow fermentation

Fermentation is deliberately slow to develop complex flavors. This phase often lasts longer at Glendronach than at many other distilleries, resulting in a richer base.

Traditional distilling

Glendronach uses classic copper stills, which ensure a full and robust whisky style. Distillation is carried out with extreme care to preserve the aromatic oils.

Sherry cask maturation

The heart of Glendronach lies in its cask ageing. Almost all whiskies mature in high-quality Spanish Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. These impart the whisky's deep, fruity aromas and characteristic dark color.

No chill filtration or dyes

Many Glendronach bottlings are neither chill-filtered nor colored, meaning you enjoy the whisky in its purest and most natural form.
