Collection: Glasgow Distillery

The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2014 and was the first operating whisky distillery in Glasgow in over 100 years. Named after the original Glasgow Distillery from 1770, it relies on modern production methods and produces in five German-made copper pot stills. The distillery uses Scottish barley and water from Loch Katrine to distill its single malts. The core range includes three whiskies: "The Original" (fresh and fruity), "Peated" (rich and smoky), and "Triple Distilled" (smooth and complex). All bottlings are non-chill-filtered, natural in color, and mature in carefully selected casks such as first-fill bourbon, virgin oak, or Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

Combining tradition with modern innovation, this distillery has made a name for itself in the Scottish whisky world. Here, we take a closer look at its history, its famous bottlings, and the processes behind its high-quality whiskies.

The History of the Glasgow Distillery

The history of the Glasgow Distillery is deeply rooted in Scottish tradition, but also marked by a bold new beginning. The original distillery was founded in 1770, but after a boom and subsequent decline in the whisky industry, it eventually disappeared from the scene.

Then, in 2014, the company was reborn. The Glasgow Distillery Company was the first independent distillery in Glasgow to be relaunched in over 100 years. Since then, it has dedicated itself to producing modern, high-quality whiskies without losing sight of the roots of Scottish tradition. The Glasgow Distillery produces a wide variety of bottlings, from mild, fruity triple-distilled whiskies to cask-strength smoke bombs.

Production methods of the Glasgow Distillery

Behind every drop of whisky lies a precise and intricate process. Let's take a look at the steps the Glasgow Distillery takes to create whisky of exceptional quality:

1.The selection of ingredients

Glasgow Distillery places the highest value on the quality of its raw materials. Only the finest barley malts and crystal-clear water from Scotland are used.

2.The mash

The ground malt is mixed with hot water to extract sugar. This process takes a little longer here than at many other distilleries to achieve the desired sweetness.

3.The fermentation

The mash is fermented in large fermentation vats, which can take up to 72 hours. This extended fermentation process helps develop complex flavors.

4.The triple distillation

Another unique feature is their practice of triple distillation (especially in the "Triple Distilled Release"). This creates a particularly smooth and light whisky that is still complex.

5.Barrel storage

Glasgow Distillery's whiskies are matured in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and red wine casks. Each cask adds its own character to the whisky, from sweet and spicy notes to hints of vanilla and oak.

6.The bottling

Before the whisky is bottled, the master distillers inspect each batch. Each bottle represents the distillery's commitment to quality and attention to detail.
