History of Independent Bottler Berry Bros & Rudd

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of Britain's oldest wine and spirits retailers, with a rich history spanning over 300 years. The long-established company was founded in 1698 by the widow Borowski at No. 3 St. James Street, where she ran an "Italian grocery store" that sold, among other things, tea, snuff, spices and coffee. The coffee grinder, which can still be seen today at number 3, is a reminder of the company's roots.

Whilst over the years Berry Bros. & Rudd's focus has shifted to wine and spirits, the company has remained a significant wine and spirits retailer to this day and is one of the largest independent bottlers of spirits in the UK. At the beginning of the 19th century, BBR began bottling barrels under its own label, which was an innovation at the time and made the company a pioneer in this field.

Independent bottler products Berry Bros & Rudd

At Berry Bros & Rudd they value the highest quality standards. That's why their spirits expert Doug McIvor tastes and selects all the barrels used in their bottlings to ensure improved speed and performance over time.

In their Classic Range they offer a variety of blended malts, divided by region or barrel composition. Whether Islay Blended Malts, Peated Cask Malts, Speyside Malts or the extremely popular Sherry Cask Blended Malt from Berry Bros & Rudd - they have something for every taste. Their blended malt whiskeys are bottled at an outstanding 44.2% ABV and are neither colored nor chill-filtered.

They also fill individual barrels and contain different strengths from 46% vol. to the natural barrel strength. In their Berry's Own Selection you will find single barrels that are usually between 8 and 25 years old.

Other things worth knowing about the independent bottler Berry Bros & Rudd

The history of Berry Bros. & Rudd is marked by many highlights and special events. For example, the company supplied alcohol to smugglers during Prohibition in America and hosted Napoleon III. in the cellars beneath his shop. BBR's entrepreneurial progressiveness should also not go unmentioned: the company went online in 1994 and in 2010 a new business area was opened that focuses entirely on the wine trade.
