Experience the unique 13-year-old Benrinnes whisky in Signatory Vintage 's exclusive 100 Proof Edition. Carefully distilled in small intermediate stills at the Speyside distillery, this spirit has been matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts, giving it rich color and flavor. The term proof is an ancient measure of the alcoholic strength of a beverage, particularly whisky, and indicates the minimum alcohol content at which gunpowder will ignite when soaked in the liquid. This method was used in the heyday of seafaring to ensure that casks stored in ships' holds could withstand the harsh weather conditions at sea. Today, the term 100 Proof is used for whiskies with high alcohol levels, like this one from Benrinnes.
