Benriach 13 years 2010/2023 JE
The Benriach 13 Year Old is a very interesting single cask bottling from the Benriach distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. This whiskey was distilled on May 4, 2010 and finished in a first fill European Oak Marsala Hogshead before being released in 2023 with 59.9% vol. Alcohol strength was bottled directly from the barrel.
The special thing about this whiskey is the extraordinary barrel finish. Storage in a Marsala wine barrel, which gives the single malt a slightly sweet and vinous character. The Benriach here benefits from interaction with the Sicilian dessert wine Marsala, which was previously stored in barrels. This imparts notes of raisins, dried fruits, nuts and sweet spices.
