Mount Gay Coffey Still Expression
The Mount Gay Barbados Rum Coffey Still Expression represents an exceptional distillation tradition that is unique in the history of rum. This rum is distilled entirely in a rare copper Coffey still, an invention of Aeneas Coffey from the early 19th century. This type of Distillation allows continuous work by functioning like a series of pot stills connected in two columns, creating a rum with a distinctive character, characterized by floral aromas and subtle notes of pear, grapefruit and honey.
The re-commissioning of the Coffey Still at Mount Gay in 2019 marked a significant milestone, as this historic distillery had been out of use for decades. Thanks to the tireless dedication and expertise of Reynold “Blues” Hinds, who worked at the distillery for over 50 years, The still was successfully reconstructed. His memories and knowledge of how the still worked have been instrumental in bringing Mount Gay's heritage and tradition into the present.
