Glenallachie Present Edition 16 years
This rare whiskey illustrates Billy's present as he busily implements an incredibly innovative cask management policy. After initial maturation in PX and Oloroso sherry casks, the spirit enjoyed a secondary maturation in specially selected Mizunara casks, a very rare and expensive type of Japanese oak. These kegs are notoriously difficult to get hold of and are prone to leaking. They are rarely used for whiskey aging. Although they present difficulties, their porous nature allows the spirit to sink deeper into the wood and impart complex notes of sandalwood and cinnamon.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Full of dark chocolate, heather honey and toasted almonds, with hints of sandalwood, ginger, orange peel, caramelized pecans and grated coconut.
Palate:Waves of heather honey, cinnamon and crystallized ginger, followed by Demerara sugar, dried dark berries, hazelnuts and fig syrup.
