Glen Elgin 11 Years Wormtub Single Cask - PX Sherry Cask Strength
This eleven-year-old Glen Elgin belongs to Wormtub Whisky's limited Wormtub Single Cask Collection. The series is dedicated to Scottish distilleries that still produce their distillates using traditional worm tub condensers. The reduced copper contact allows for particularly bold, heavy, and characterful aromas to be retained.
The Speyside Single Malt matured in a single Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead and was bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.4% vol. Only 386 bottles were yielded from the cask.
The aroma is opulent and fruity: orchard fruits and honeydew melon meet strong oak, orange peel, and rich malt. Sweet notes of syrup porridge, madeleines, blueberry muffins, and chocolate-covered malt biscuits are accompanied by a subtly savory hint. On the palate, vanilla cream, clove, and ginger combine with baked apple, liquid caramel, and candied walnuts. Tropical fruit accents provide additional depth. The dense finish is reminiscent of fruitcake and sticky toffee pudding, complemented by creamy malt, warm spices, oak, melted chocolate, and juicy fruits.
