In the northwest of South America on the Pacific coast lies one of the most diverse countries in the world. Sugar cane is also grown in Ecuador between the rainforests of the Amazon basin, the highlands of the Andes and the coastal plain. However, cultivation is less extensive compared to other countries in Latin America. Therefore, Ecuadorian rum is rarely found on the European market. However, you’ve come to the right place at FRC !
The barrels numbered 80, 104, 22 and 36 of the Ecuadorian rum Romero & Sons 1973 were distilled by Alfonso Romero himself in the early 1970s. He used sugarcane honey and a pot still he made himself. The barrels were transported to various locations over the years, but they were always stored in the highlands of Ecuador at an altitude of around 2,500 meters above sea level. In the 1990s, the barrels were opened for the first time and filled with rum of the same style before making their journey to Europe in 2021.
