Für ihren ersten Whisky griffen Phil und Simon Thompson auf das Fass zurück, mit dem die Geschichte der Dornoch Distillery begonnen hatte: Fass Nr. 001. Das Inaugural Release steht damit für den Schritt von ihrer gemeinsamen Whiskyidee zur ersten Veröffentlichung der eigenen Brennerei.
Die Premiere würdigte zugleich jene Menschen, die den Aufbau der kleinen Destillerie unterstützt hatten. Ein großer Anteil der insgesamt 893 Flaschen blieb den frühen Crowdfunding-Unterstützern vorbehalten. Kleinere Mengen erhielten internationale Importpartner und ausgewählte Händler in Großbritannien.
