Caol Ila 16 Years Feis Ile 2020
The Caol Ila 16 Year Old Natural Cask Strength – Fèis Ìle 2020 is a limited-edition special bottling released to celebrate the 2020 Islay Festival. Distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2020, this single malt was initially matured in refill bourbon hogsheads and then finished in Amoroso sherry-treated hogsheads. Bottled at cask strength 53.9% ABV, it is neither chill-filtered nor colored.
On the nose, the whisky presents maritime notes, citrus fruits, honey banana, and a hint of coal dust. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with salty sea breezes, grilled fruits, mango, and melon peel, accompanied by a metallic undertone and coal dust. The finish is medium-length with notes of charred fruit, smoldering wood embers, and dried grass.
Limited to 3,000 bottles, this bottling was personally selected by then-distillery manager Pierrick Guillaume. It offers an interesting variation on the classic Caol Ila style and is a special discovery for both collectors and lovers of smoky Islay whiskies.
