Bladnoch Dragon Series IV

Five single malt whiskeys from the Lowland Bladnoch distillery together form the Dragon Series, which has just been presented by the distillery. Each individual bottling represents a specific moment in whiskey production and refers to the Dragon Curve, a fractal curve from mathematics.

I. Bladnoch The Field 46.7% 0.7l:

Iteration I is the origin of all their whiskey. The barley is harvested annually from the farmer's field before undergoing the malting process. The resulting malted barley provides us with the main raw material for the distillery. Before this raw material even arrives at the distillery, they have already encountered the diversity and variability of nature, our environment and the malting process itself.

II. Bladnoch The Spirit 48.3% 0.7l:

Iteration II is the distillery's first production stage. The malted barley from the field goes through the three key processes of mashing, fermenting and distilling. The potential variables and unpredictability continue to multiply through these steps, such as gravity, temperatures and intersections, all of which require a deep understanding on the part of their mash and still men to ensure they have a consistent new brand spirit. This floral and fruity Lowland distillery character is ready to be transferred to their oak casks for maturation.

III. Bladnoch The Casks 49.9% 0.7l:

Iteration III in the series highlights another major source of variability in the parallel process of barrel finishing. When processing their barrels, a variety of variables must be taken into account, ranging from the type of oak and growing environment to the technical challenges of roasting, charring and seasoning. All of this can have a significant butterfly effect on your final whiskey if the natural chaos within is not caused by the Cooper.

IV. Bladnoch The Aging 51.5% 0.7l:

Iteration IV focuses on the longest, most complex, and least understood maturation process. Barrels filled with New Make spirits undergo years and decades of interaction with their environment, creating an unpredictable structure for future whiskey. Whoever puts down the barrels passes them on to a future generation who will be the guardians of the results. The seasonal change in temperature and humidity, storage type and location, combined with the angels, creates significant management complexity. To enhance these effects in Iteration IV, barrels were sought in the darkest and coldest locations in Bladnoch's storage rooms.

V. Bladnoch The Decision 53.1% 0.7l:

Iteration V focuses on whiskey production in the tasting room, where decisions are made for their final products. All fluctuations and unpredictability are accounted for on-site to protect tomorrow's interests while balancing today's needs for a consistent and sustainable experience for everyone. Take the previous complexity in its entirety and simplify it in these final steps. Given the opportunities for innovation and the ability to build flexibly maturing stocks, the variability and unpredictability of all processes up to this point should not be noticed by anyone if we make the right decisions.
