Balvenie French Oak 16 Years Pineau Cask
The Balvenie French Oak is a vibrant single malt whiskey matured in ex-wine casks in France's Charentes vineyards.
Pineau des Charentes is a wine made from unfermented grape must to which a cognac eau de vie is added before subsequent aging. The Pineau is also made in-house in the neighboring French departments of Deau-Sevres and Vendee.
After a family vacation in the region and enthusiastic tasting of the aperitif, Lorne Cousin, brand ambassador for The Balvenie USA, suggested to master distiller David C. Stewart MBE that they explore these casks further.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Harmoniously balanced, slightly floral notes of lotus and geranium blossoms dance between a hint of fresh meadow grass and apple peel.
Palate: An invigorating kick of zesty lemon zest and grapefruit meets the delicate, subtle sweetness of glazed fruit and the spiciness of ginger root.
Finish: Refreshingly concise.
