Ardbeg Uigeadail (Bottled 2009)
Ardbeg Uigeadail is a powerful and complex single malt whisky from the Scottish island of Islay. Named after Loch Uigeadail, the distillery's water source, the name means "dark, mysterious place" in Gaelic . This bottling combines the intense smokiness of Ardbeg with the sweetness and spice of Oloroso sherry casks, complemented by maturation in ex-bourbon casks.
With an alcohol content of 54.2% vol., the Uigeadail is bottled at cask strength and is non-chill-filtered . On the nose, it unfolds a complex bouquet of peat smoke, dark fruits, spices, and a hint of espresso . On the palate, it is full-bodied with a harmonious balance of sweetness, spice, and smoke, accompanied by notes of honey, chocolate, and smoked meat . The finish is long and warming with lingering aromas of raisins, mocha, and aromatic smoke .
Ardbeg Uigeadail has won multiple awards, including World Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2009. A favorite of the Ardbeg Committee, it is a must-try for lovers of smoky Islay whiskies with a taste for complex, sherry-aged flavors .
