Ardbeg For Discussion
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intense with hints of charcoal, creosote, tar and syrup toffee, with particular hints of something vegetal like fennel, celery and green peppers. Once these wear off, there are hints of milk chocolate, aniseed and wood smoke. With a small drop of water, more herbal notes such as fennel, coriander and lavender appear, along with some signature aromatic Ardbeg woodsmoke and a hint of fresh, salty sea spray.
Palate: A distinctive peppery mouthfeel gives way to a complex symphony of flavors; Syrup toffee, anise, salted caramel chocolate, eucalyptus, menthol and briar wood to name a few. The "tingly" peppery sensation on the palate continues, with the sweeter flavors giving way to savory notes such as charcoal, smoked bacon, burnt toast and tar.
Finish:The aftertaste is long and lingering, with hints of peppermint and clove.
