This latest Oban special edition comes from one of the oldest coastal distilleries in the Scottish Highlands. This 12-year-old whisky blends land and sea in its character: look forward to a whisky that harmoniously combines subtle smoky notes, maritime freshness, and mature oak – captured in a bottle that reflects the uniqueness of Oban.
The nose immediately reveals sea salt, fresh brine, and a hint of dried seaweed, accompanied by delicate aromas of orchard fruits such as green apple and pear. Added to this are light notes of vanilla and honey from the oak, rounded off by a hint of citrus zest that balances the maritime influence. The palate reveals a gentle malt sweetness that blends with baked apple, toffee, and subtle wood spices. A sea breeze, gentle smoke, and a hint of pepper linger in the background. The finish is warm and medium-length, with lingering notes of oak, fruit, and a hint of smoke. Best enjoyed neat to explore the different layers, or with a few drops of water to soften the edges and bring out more citrus and spice.
