By employing traditional, historical – albeit time-consuming – methods,Killowen succeeds in creating a distinctive flavor profile reminiscent of the once globally acclaimed whiskeys that were quintessentially "Irish." Thus, Killowen's sought-after Irish product can rightfully enjoy renewed prestige. Both peated malted barley and unmalted barley were used for this bottling.
The maturation process began in a virgin Irish oak cask before the whiskey was transferred to a Pedro Ximénez cask, where it spent the majority of its aging time. The spicy intensity of the Irish oak was harmoniously interwoven with notes of dried fruit and sweetness, giving the whiskey impressive complexity.
