Shenk's Homestead Distillery Sour Mash Whiskey 2024 represents the enduring tradition of American whiskey and honors the legacy of John Shenk, an 18th-century pioneer of distilling. This special bottling is the result of a meticulous production process in Kentucky and embodies the essence of the sour mash process, in which a portion of the previously distilled whiskey, known as "setback," is incorporated into the next mash.
With an alcohol content of 91.2 proof, this full-bodied small-batch whiskey displays the complexity and depth that connoisseurs of the genre appreciate. The 2024 release is characterized by a significant proportion of rye, known for its distinctive spicy and herbal notes. It is matured in French oak casks sourced from the Vosges region. These casks are naturally air-dried for 24 months before use and then toasted according to specific guidelines, imparting exceptional smoothness and a complex flavor profile to the whiskey.
