Mainland peat from St. Fergus forms the basis for the whisky's characteristic, oak-accented and sweet-smoky taste, while five years of maturation in virgin oak casks and Oloroso sherry hogsheads provide complex depth and rich flavors.
Under the direction of legendary Master Distiller Billy Walker, the Speyside distillery devotes approximately six weeks each year to producing peated whisky , yielding approximately 100,000 liters of alcohol by volume (LOA)—just one-tenth of its total spirits production. The result is Meikle Tòir, a distinctively sweet and smoky malt defined by the distillery's meticulous production process, including a 160-hour fermentation for added complexity.
The name "Turbo" reflects the intense smokiness—72 ppm compared to 35 ppm in the core Meikle Tòir range. This high phenol content is achieved by capturing the spirit cut at its phenolic peak, the "heart of the heart" of the distillate.
