After 20 years of success, it's almost forgotten: the first Stauning whiskies were produced in an old slaughterhouse – using homemade equipment, local grain, and peat from the nearby Bølling Sø Moor. With its Anniversary Bottling, the Danish distillery now looks back to these beginnings and brings rare smoky aromas back to the glass.

The Stauning 10 yo – Peat Smoked combines equal parts unpeated single malts and those made from malted barley dried over peat from Bølling Sø. This bog, arguably one of the oldest places in Denmark, played a central role in peat production at the beginning of the 20th century. As Stauning grew, however, the peat reserves from Bølling Sø were no longer sufficient, which is why production had to be expanded to other areas in Jutland.

Now, the historic notes of campfire smoke return. They combine with bright, fruity aromas, hay, and heather honey to create a complex terroir whisky. The single malts used have matured, in some cases since Stauning's early days, but for at least ten years, in a mix of bourbon, new oak, port, and sherry casks.
