Tradition meets Scottish Heritage Since 1952, the Saburomaru Distillery in Toyama Prefecture has dedicated itself to the art of smoky whisky, establishing itself as a pioneer in this segment. The distinctive feature lies in the fermentation: the use of wooden fermentation vats supports a diverse aroma development, which gives the whisky a balanced and fruity complexity despite its smoky dominance. The Saburomaru distillery is at the heart of this bottling.
Cask Maturation and Origin
For "The Emperor," heavily Highland peated malt with a phenol content of 50 ppm was processed in 2020, before the distillate was bottled in 2024. On the palate, a hearty sweetness reminiscent of roasted chestnuts is contrasted by the mild acidity of sun-ripened apricots.
