Ondjaba - The Namibian Whiskey - Rum Cask
Namibian Whiskey with Rum Cask Finish
This whiskey from Ondjaba is produced in Namibia from three types of grain, including local Mahangu. The malting process over burning elephant dung gives the grain a unique smoky aroma.
Maturation initially takes place in Virgin Oak and Refill Casks. A subsequent finish in rum casks complements the smoky profile with fruity, sweet, and spicy nuances. The whiskey is bottled at 46.0% vol., non-chill-filtered, and not colored.
Aromas and Taste
- Nose: Spicy smoke with dark cherries, blackberries, and vanilla
- Palate: Red fruits, creamy caramel, cinnamon, and sandalwood
- Finish: Long-lasting with chocolate impressions
Served neat at room temperature, the smoke, fruit, and cask notes can be particularly well explored.
