An exciting new addition to the Killowen family, The Dalriadan Part 1 of 2 is a truly innovative expression. It's a blended malt composed of 11-year-old malts from Northern Ireland and Islay in Scotland. The blend is 40% double-distilled peated malt matured exclusively in ex-bourbon hogsheads, while the remaining 60% is an 11-year-old malt from a County Antrim distillery, finished for three years in Oloroso butts.
Limited to 386 bottles.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Fruit salad sweets at the beginning, then apricot, lemon and pineapple come to the fore, not forgetting the Atlantic peat fire in the background.
Palate: Crumbley Wensleydale, that Wensleydale you get with fruit, maybe dried apricot pieces, lemon and maybe even blueberry pieces, if it was ever made that way.
Finish: This is where the whisky itself comes through for us, yes, there are cigar leaves, but there seems to be a powdery texture between that deep peaty smoke and very herbal, but again with that citrusy, crumbly cheese.
