Jack Daniel's 10 Year Batch 5 shows how much character additional
maturation can give to the well-known Tennessee whiskey style. The
limited bottling from Lynchburg combines a pronounced
oak character with sweet and fruity accents. At 48.5% ABV,
it presents itself as powerful yet smooth.
For its production, the distillery uses a mash of 80%
corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. Before barrel aging,
the distillate undergoes the typical Jack Daniel's filtration
through sugar maple charcoal. During the ten years of maturation,
the barrels are moved between different temperature zones in the warehouses.
This targeted aging shapes the interplay of wood and whiskey.
On the nose, oak and butter toffee are prominent. On the palate,
dark caramel and vanilla meet fruit and cocoa notes. A
subtle smoky impression complements the full-bodied profile.
