Hammerschmiede - Best Dram - Oloroso Sherry Cask

Oloroso Sherry Maturation and Wood Smoke

This single malt from the Hammerschmiede distillery in Zorge in the Harz mountains combines sherry aromas with a special type of smoke. The malt used is smoked over alder and beech wood. No peat is used in the process. Maturation takes place in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead.

This single cask bottling consists of 219 bottles and was bottled in 2026 at a cask strength of 59.1% ABV. The whisky is non-chill filtered and contains no added coloring. In the glass, it shows a golden amber hue.

Aromas and Taste

  • Nose: Wood smoke accompanies the sweet notes of brown sugar, dried plums, and figs.
  • Palate: Dark chocolate and spicy clove define the robust taste.
  • Finish: Long-lasting with a distinct oak character.

A few drops of water offer the opportunity to explore the balance between the sherry notes and the wood smoke in the glass.
