Ardbeg For Discussion
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intense with hints of charcoal, creosote, tar, and treacle toffee, with particular hints of vegetal notes like fennel, celery, and green pepper. As these fade, there are hints of milk chocolate, anise, and wood smoke. With a small drop of water, further herbal notes such as fennel, coriander, and lavender appear, along with some characteristic aromatic Ardbeg wood smoke and a hint of fresh, salty sea spray.
Palate: A distinctive peppery mouthfeel transitions into a complex symphony of flavors: treacle toffee, anise, salted caramel chocolate, eucalyptus, menthol, and briar wood, to name a few. The tingling, peppery sensation continues on the palate, with the sweeter flavors giving way to savorier notes like charcoal, smoked bacon, burnt toast, and tar.
Finish: The aftertaste is long and persistent, with hints of peppermint and clove.
