It is the subtle interplay of earthy peat smoke and the deep, wine-like sweetness of an Oloroso cask that makes this Islay Single Malt a discovery for discerning palates. A dialogue of dark fruit and ashy smoke. On the nose, an elegant register of sherry notes presents itself first, characterized by dark fruits, roasted nuts, and a hint of caramel fudge, gently enveloping the distillery's typical peat character. The Caol Ila distillery is at the heart of this bottling.
Cask Maturation and Origin
Craftsmanship between Port Askaig and St. Distilled in 2010, it initially spent its maturation in a hogshead before being refined by a finish in an Oloroso sherry cask. This single cask was curated by Felix Dear for the traditional London house Berry Bros. & Rudd, to celebrate the 50th.
Aromatics
On the palate, the Islay spirit shows itself more directly and with firm conviction: an earthy smoke meets the structuring depth of dry tannins. The finish is long-lasting and ashy, with nuances of walnut shells and dried fruits leaving a lasting impression.
