There are moments that immediately tell a story of distant shores and untouched nature – this single malt from the Isle of Raasay is one such experience. The mineral-rich water flows over volcanic rock and is filtered through Jurassic sandstone, which gives the spirit a distinct fruitiness during the three to five-day fermentation.

Cask Maturation and Origin

It is the successful symbiosis of local terroir and the courage to explore new, continental paths in cask selection. For this limited edition of the “Oak Species Maturation Series”, the whisky distilled in 2021 matured in rare Hungarian ex-Oloroso Sherry Barriques (Quercus Petraea). This special oak species and its previous sherry contents give the mere four-year-old whisky a depth often only found in much older bottlings.

Aroma

A blend of blackberry, ginger, and dark chocolate. Even with the first swirl in the glass, the whisky reveals its warm copper tone, which is entirely free of artificial coloring. On the nose, a subtle, very elegant smokiness emerges, underscored by spicy ginger and the scent of freshly roasted coffee. On the palate, the full complexity of 50% Vol. is evident: juicy blackberry notes meet the tart sweetness of dark chocolate, while the Hungarian oak provides a fine, dry spice.
