Mortlach The Beast Of Dufftown Diageo Special Release 2022
This Mortlach from the Speyside distillery, known for its unique 2.8x distillation process, was bottled specifically for the 2022 Special Releases. Under the motto "Elusive Expressions," each of this year's bottlings tells a legend related to its distillery. The Mortlach bottling depicts the "Beast of Dufftown," who was once lifted into the night sky by the pull of the moon as it turned crimson.
Mortlach was the first of Dufftown's famous seven distilleries and also the town's first legal distillery. It stands out from other distilleries, particularly due to the multitude of illegal activities that once took place on its premises. The distillery was founded in 1823 by James Findlater.
Today, following the merger with United Distillers, Mortlach is part of the Diageo portfolio. Diageo invested an impressive €1.5 million in a comprehensive renovation to bring the distillery up to date. Under Diageo's management, Mortlach continues to thrive and will hopefully delight consumers with numerous more official bottlings in the future.
