Description
With the Glenfarclas 190, the venerable Speyside distillery celebrates 190 years of licensed whisky production since 1836. The anniversary bottling also concludes the Anniversary Trilogy, following Glenfarclas 175 and 185. For this composition, Distillery Manager Callum A. Fraser and Managing Director Douglas Belford selected a total of 78 sherry casks from five decades. This brings together fruity nuances from the 1970s with the rich sherry character of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as toffee and caramel notes from the 2000s.
Glenfarclas remains true to the defining pillars of its house style: traditional direct-fired stills, maturation in selected sherry casks, and the cool dunnage warehouses of the distillery. The single malt is bottled at 51.4% vol. – corresponding to 90 British Proof and thus a reference to the historical alcohol indication that Glenfarclas used during its first 154 years of production. On the palate, it is soft, rich, and velvety with green apples, sherry sweetness, and spicy Christmas cake. The long finish combines dark chocolate with a delicate hint of fresh tobacco. A specially designed outer packaging, whose design incorporates labels from different decades, completes the anniversary edition.
