Lagavulin Feis Ile 2022
A special single malt Scotch whiskey from the Lagavulin distillery, produced especially for the Feis Ile 2022 festival. Aged for 12 years in Refill American Oak Hogsheads and finished in Virgin American Oak Casks where it was finally bottled at 57.7% cask strength for the Feis Ile Festival in 2022.
Limited to 6336 bottles.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Mild with a slight tingle. The first top note is creamy and reminiscent of bread pudding - very unusual for a Lagavulin. But then other aromas soon come to the fore: subtle maritime notes of sea salt and seaweed with subtle nuances that are reminiscent of medicinal ointments and oils. All in all very substantial. With water, a subtle acidity is noticeable at first, which is soon overlaid by the medicinal notes and an increasingly stronger aromatic wood smoke.
Palate: Undiluted, the consistency is strong, full-bodied and slightly oily. The taste is initially very sweet and spicy at the same time. After that, a drying impression becomes noticeable, while the sweetness is replaced by subtle salt, smoke and spicy oak. With a little water, the soft sweetness comes out even more, which then also brings smoky notes with a hint of ash, while the woody spiciness of the oak recedes into the background.
Finish: Long, intense and slightly drying, with billowing smoke framed by a lingering spiciness and a slightly cooling aftertaste reminiscent of Szechuan pepper. Even longer and softer with water, but still hot and spicy and again with lots of smoke and chilli pepper.
