Collection: Ben Nevis

In Fort William, Scotland, there is a distillery called Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, stands 1,345 meters (4,413 feet) above sea level and is located directly below. The Allt a'Mhuilinn, which springs from two pools on Ben Nevis, Coire Leis and Coire na'Ciste, is the water source for this coastal distillery in the Western Highlands. Long John McDonald, a 6'4" descendant of the king of the western Scottish kingdom of Argyll, founded the distillery in 1825.

Donald McDonald, Long John's son, assumed control after his father's death in 1856. In 1878, a second distillery, called the Nevis Distillery, was built nearby. The two distilleries eventually merged in the early 20th century to meet ever-increasing demand. The distillery was acquired by new owners under the leadership of Joseph Hobbs in 1955.
